Rationale: To ensure the health and safety of all staff, children and visitors to the centre is achieved by eliminating, minimising and isolating all hazards which may occur.
Objectives: To ensure that the centre complies with the requirements of the Occupational Safety and Health Act and when a hazard is identified by management or staff the procedure to ELIMINATE, MINIMISE and ISOLATE the hazard is followed.
Procedure: Staff will complete a daily checklist to ensure that the centre is safe and free from any hazards. When staff or management identify a hazard eg. broken or dangerous equipment eliminate the hazard where possible such as discarding the object. Next minimise the risks of the hazard and isolate the hazard in an area such as the storage shed so that no harm comes to any persons.
Document the date and details of the hazard on the Hazard Identification Sheet and get management or person responsible to sign it and then file it in the Hazards Identification Folder. Record the hazard on the meeting agenda which is in the staff meeting book. The hazard will be discussed at the next staff meeting and appropriate action to be taken and time frame will be specified in fixing the problem. Hazard may also be rectified as soon as possible.
