Rationale:  To ensure that a civil defense kit is located on the premises and is available for all to use in times of an emergency.  In the event of an actual emergency such as an earthquake or fire, staff and children will know exactly what to do.

Procedure:

In the event of an emergency Bright Stars Educare will be prepared by having a well stocked Civil Defense Emergency kit which is located in Over 2’s rest room in the double cupboard.

The Manager will assign a teacher to update the civil defense supplies and check expiration dates 6 monthly and also ensure adequate first aid supplies are on hand.   A register list of Civil Defense Supplies is attached to this policy.

Civil Defense Procedures

Bright Stars Educare’s nearest Civil Defense location is • Wairoa College, Lucknow Street Waira. Teachers will move children and our civil defense supplies to there if advised and a sign will be displayed on front door of Childcare to let whānau know.  Enrolment folder, Sign in sheets will be taken. Person responsible will contact all families using cellphone.
