Rationale: Each child’s is to be included, irrespective of ability, developmental stage, age, gender, ethnicity, economic circumstances or culture. Ensuring equity of learning and participation in education for all children.
Guideline: Ensuring there are opportunities that do not exclude children from the group, activities that can be used in many contexts that is functional, and adaptable to fit into other areas for the child. i.e. Activity based approach. In doing so the centre will provide a learning environment that will support emotional, social skills, cognitive and language development while taking into consideration individual child/ren’s respective culture and socio economic background.
Method: Children are given equal opportunity to develop positive social relationships with their peers and teachers.Staff are to recognise that for children to grow and develop they must feel a sense of belonging in a climate where their well being is catered for in order for them to successfully build a basis for community and friendships.Staff will discuss Special Needs regularly, assess and prioritise needs, refer to appropriate authorities. Staff will ensure programmes are actioned monitored and reviewed.The centre is to provide resources and support for individuals, recognising that some will need more resources and support than others. Staff are to understand that it is necessary to develop and maintain partnerships with children, families/whanau and respective professionals. This will only occur in a mutually respectful climate where all families/whanau are able to be involved in, experiences and conditions of everyday living, and interactions that will connect to the wider community. Parents/whanau, the community, professionals and agencies to work in collaboration when deciding what type of educational objectives and programs best fits the needs of the individual child.
