Rationale: To work in partnership with whanau / families to promote and extend the learning and development of each child who attends the centre.

Aim: In respect to the child/ren the Centre will provide and receive guided support to and from family and whanau through open and respectful communication between all parties.

Guideline: Educators are to develop close relationships with families and whanau so that the child may be understood within their social context.

Method: Communication with parents at the beginning and end of each day is encouraged. Information concerning the child will be both verbal and written. Information on each child to be recorded within Learning profile books. This is to be available for parents/children/whanau to view at all times.

Information concerning the centre and wider community will be displayed on the noticeboard. Issues concerning the centre will be discussed with parents/whanau and any changes that occur will be as a result of collaborative consultation between staff and parents/whanau as outlined in the review statement procedures.  The centre will hold at least two whanau gathering nights where parents and caregivers will discuss with staff the development and needs of their child. We encourage parents and caregivers to share ideas and talents that will be integrated in their child's learning and whanau are welcome to spend time and assist in the day to day running of the centre.
