Rationale: At Bright Stars Educare we believe assessment and evaluation of children’s development, the environment, adult interactions, child and planning appropriate experiences for young children.
Objectives: Have in place an assessment process which will observe the child in the context of the centre’s programme. That child assessment will cover areas of development and inclusive of Te Whariki the National Early Childhood Curriculum. To identify strengths, interests and needs of the child.
Procedures: Parents, Staff, Child and Whanau are all encouraged to be a part of the assessment process. All information about the child will be kept confidential unless written consent is given to share this information.
Staff will use learning stories and observations to plan and assess each child’s learning. Assessment and programme planning will always be positive and understanding to each child’s individual needs. The child’s individual portfolio will be kept up to date to use as a living document of the child’s record of learning. Staff will use fortnightly meetings to plan and assess the programme and to discuss any issues which may arise.
