Rationale: To ensure that the centre complies with Regulation 29 and the Smoke Free Environments Act 1991 and that all children, staff and visitors to the centre enjoy a smoke, alcohol and substance free environment. Children, staff and visitors to the centre will also enjoy a tobacco free environment.
Objective: To provide a smoke, tobacco, alcohol and substance free environment and to be a centre that provides positive role models to all by enforcing a no alcohol, smoking or substance use at all times while on centre premises. At all times there will be no tobacco inside the centre building, including the outside play area.
Procedure:· At all times there will be no smoking, no use of alcohol or use of illegal substances on the centre grounds including all centre buildings and car park area. · At all times there will be a no smoking and a no tobacco sign displayed at the front entrance to inform all visitors to the centre that the centre is a smoke free and tobacco free zone.· Parents, Whanau and staff who smoke can do so by leaving centre premises and going out on to public property, ensuring that they are out of the line of sight of the children before smoking.· No smoking, alcohol and illegal substance permitted while on an excursion.· If someone happens to smoke while on an excursion or visit to the centre they will be kindly asked to leave the excursion until they have finished smoking ensuring they are out of the line of sight of the children. If someone happens to smoke on a visit to the centre or bring tobacco into the centre building, they will be kindly asked to leave the premisis to smoke, ensuring they are out of the line of sight of the children, and/or to remove their tobacco from the centre building. Any persons influenced by alcohol or illegal substances will also be asked to leave the premises or the excursion until their system is cleared and they are no longer influenced by alcohol or illegal substances.
