To ensure all persons responsible take reasonable steps to ensure correct medicine and medication is given to the child.
PROCEDURES: Senior staff member who holds a current 1st Aid certificate is to administer the medicine. Before administering the medicine senior staff member must show another staff member to confirm that the correct medicine and dosage is given to the child.
On arrival medicine must be handed to staff and Medicine Record Book must be filled in correctly (located in the kitchen). Parents/whanau must sign book and staff who administered the medicine must sign book once medicine has been administered.
Medicine must be in prescribed bottle with child’s name, date, doctor’s name and the amount of medicine to be given and the length of time medicine is to be given. No medicine will be given if this chemist label is not attached. Exceptions will be made to pamol and cough mixture but these medicines must be in the container they are sold in.
Medicine will be stored in 1st AID cupboard or if refrigeration is needed then in the top shelf of the fridge.
