Rationale: To ensure the health and well being of children and staff is protected and nurtured. 

Purpose: To ensure the spread of infectious diseases is kept to a minimum and that all staff are trained and have sufficient knowledge to care for those with a chronic illness.

Procedure:  CHRONIC ILLNESS - Children with ongoing medical needs such as Asthma or Diabetes will require a health plan.  This is where parents and whanau will inform the Supervisor along with staff members as to how to carry out the child’s medical needs.  The health plan will be recorded in the back of the medicine book and all staff will be trained in how to carry out the health plan.  The person responsible on the floor who is both ECE trained and holds a current 1st Aid Certificate will be firstly responsible in carry out the plan.  A detailed report will be recorded each time the health plan is used and a copy will be held on the child’s file.  Any further training needed in order for staff to be effective in carrying out the health plan will be provided and expenses paid by the centre.

AIDS/HEPATITIS A, B, C:     Children who are infected with HIV, Aids or Hepatitis A B and C will be welcome at the centre and will be treated with dignity and respect.Parents will inform the Centre Manager if their child is HIV/ Aids positive.  Confidentiality will be maintained at all times.  Gloves must be worn at all times when dealing with body fluid, cuts, grazes etc.  Contaminated waste must be discarded into the rubbish bins in a plastic bag.  All linen and equipment used in delivering first aid must be cleaned with a bleach solution.

LEARNING TOGETHER

The children are provided with endless opportunities to explore and play in our outdoor area. A large wooden and steel playframe with slides and other play equipment, sandpit, and separate swings.

Each day children are offered creative opportunities through artwork, dance and song or messy play. The extensive range of first hand experiences enables children to develop skills for their future lives
