Rationale: To provide a safe environment where staff members and adults health is protected. 

Aim: To minimise the spread of diseases within the centre, and to promote well being by creating and maintaining a safe environment for not just, children, but staff, adults and all whanau.

Guidelines: All staff responsible on the floor will hold a current first aid certificate.

Strict guidelines are set for toileting and nappy changing procedures. Parents are to be informed of this on enrolment.  Staff will be shown and taught how to enforce these toileting and nappy procedures.  The centre will ensure that at all times gloves will be provided for staff when they are preparing meals and when they carry out nappy changing and toileting. A copy of the staff’s immunisation details will be noted. Staff who are not well are excluded from the centre for their own well being and also for the safety and health of all other children and staff attending the centre. Staff are not to attend prior to 48 hours clear of vomiting, diarrhoea or treatment of nits. Mucus from nostrils to be clear.

Method: Toys are disinfected as soon after contamination or alternatively done weekly. Gloves worn when cleaning, nappy changing or preparing food. Staff to enforce cleaning procedures of the centre each day to ensure the centre is kept clean. In the event of an illness or injury needing medical attention an ambulance will be called, and family will be notified. All injuries to be recorded in the first aid book. Medication will only be administered by a qualified staff member once measured medicine has been witnessed by another staff member.

LEARNING TOGETHER

The children are provided with endless opportunities to explore and play in our outdoor area. A large wooden and steel playframe with slides and other play equipment, sandpit, and separate swings.

HANDS ON ACTIVITIES

Each day children are offered creative opportunities through artwork, dance and song or messy play. The extensive range of first hand experiences enables children to develop skills for their future lives
