At all times there will be at least one staff member on the floor who holds a current 1st Aid certificate.
Manager will ensure all children’s records have parents current contact number and a current emergency contact number.
If an accident occurs administer 1st Aid immediately and inform supervisor. If necessary contact the ambulance service. A staff member must remain with the injured child until parents/whanau are able to be with their child. If it is less serious parents will be contacted to take child to the doctor.
All accidents are recorded in the Accident Record Book located in the kitchen. If it is a serious accident/incident a Serious Incident Report Form must be filled in and a copy given to parents/whanau. Staff member who took care of child’s injuries etc must fill in the records, sign it and then inform parents. Parents are to sign the records as confirmation of knowing and understanding about their child’s accident/incident.
Accidents/Incidents will be monitored by the Health and Safety officer as this may result in areas in the play environment needing repair or adjustment.
The Ministry of Education will also be notified at the time of the incident and a copy of the report will be sent also. A serious incident/accident is when a child has needed medical attention.
